RIP - Mangala Camara

Mangala Camara, musician, artist and poet of Mali, is no longer with us. He died suddenly and unexpectedly on September 29, 2010 in the Gabriel Touré Hospital in Bamako, Mali. He was only 50 years old.

Mangala Camara was well-known in Mali because of his free way of thinking and living. He not only sung but he played many instruments such as the guitar, n’ngoni, traditional percussions, djembe, doundoun and the tama.

One of his last albums was “Minye Minye” what means you are what you are. In the song he sings "no one can change, his own nature”. This was also adapted by the president Ahmed Toumani Toure as hymn tune to his victorious electoral campaign.

We got to know him through his work with our friend and collaborator, Boddhi Satva. Here is their song together - "Willie" - a deep afro ancestral soul house mix.
