Róisín Murphy - Gaga before Gaga was Gaga

Before the world's Bad Romance with Lady Gaga began...there was Róisín Murphy.

Róisín Murphy is an Electronica singer/songwriter from Ireland. She originally rose to fame in the UK in 1994 as the lead singer for Electro group Moloko. Moloko blended the sounds of Trip Hop and Funk with Electro, and is known for their clever and often humorous lyrics. We put a Dennis Ferrer remix of the Moloko song Forever More on the October 2010 GLOBAILE Podcast.

When the group broke up, Róisín really blew up as a solo artist with her album Overpowered. She released a series of eccentric music videos to accompany the album that showcased, amongst other things, her avant garde sense of style.

Disco ball sunglasses, lobster hats, stuffed animal jackets...sound familiar? Yes - there has been a lot of media speculation about the similarities between Ms. Murphy and Ms. Gaga...

We won't get into that whole thing...but needless to say - we are on Team Róisín! This woman is fierce. She writes lyrics and melodies with depth and wit - while still delivering catchy and stylish pop tunes.

Check out this video - we love the cape and the neon lights!
